Light of the... storage closet?
Our advent journey this week through prophecy and light reminds me of a wonderful allegory written by Max Lucado in his book God Came Near. Light of the Storage Closet is a mythical conversation between three candles in a storage closet. Two of them are justifying why they should simply remain on the shelf lighting the closet.
We can spend this week understanding this message of advent and remain in the storage closet where it is comfortable, safe and predictable or we can take the initiative and go out into the darkness. Once you step out of the storage closet of your fellow believers you will encounter the darkness of those facing life’s inevitable challenges without the Light of Christ. Yes, believers need reminders to see the Light in their challenges but unbelievers need to be introduced to the Light.
What will you do with The Light? God’s plan is “that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,”
